Furnace Fest 2020 is bringing the 2000s screamo and hardcore band reunions of underground music fans' dreams.

Even the festival itself is returning after a prolonged absence. But come this Sept.18-20 at the Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Ala., it might as well be 2003 all over again. Hell, the first confirmed act — announced last November — was storied North Carolina post-hardcore outfit Beloved.

That group hasn't performed since 2005. And several other like-minded bands are joining Beloved for the Furnace Fest revival to mount their respective comebacks. That includes Georgia scenesters Showbread, South Carolina headbangers Stretch Arm Strong and Pennsylvania emo icons The Juliana Theory.

In fact, The Juliana Theory are one of many Furnace Fest 2020 artists who've actually reunited previously but have remained somewhat under the radar over the past few years. Others in that same boat include As Friends Rust, Boysetsfire, The Casket Lottery, Hopesfall, Living Sacrifice and Poison the Well.

Then there are the high-powered hardcore and metalcore outfits who've been holding it down for years, with maybe a short break here and there. A couple of them playing Furnace Fest this September include apocalyptic shredders Zao and posi-core stalwarts Shai Hulud.

Plus, Furnace Fest boasts other big emo names like former Sunny Day Real Estate singer Jeremy Enigk and esoteric experimenters The Appleseed Cast. Bands who've formed more recently that are playing the event include '68, Counterparts, Gideon, Knocked Loose and SeeYouSpaceCowboy.

All that to say that Birmingham will certainly be the place to be late this summer for both old and new fans of emo, screamo and hardcore music. Get Furnace Fest 2020 tickets and more information here.
