Some of our all-time favorite bands — Paramore, Jimmy Eat World and The All-American Rejects, to name a few — have the coveted description of a "platinum selling album" under their repertoire.

A platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) means that an album has sold one million copies — yeah, no big deal.

While some bands, like Blink-182 for example, have albums that hit a platinum level of sales within three months of it's release, others, like The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, received the monumental certification almost 10 years later.

"Platinum Awards have come to stand as a benchmark of success for any artist—whether they’ve just released their first song or Greatest Hits album," RIAA explains.
