Mayday Parade, The Maine, More Release Beatles Cover: Listen

A number of scene bands have united for a random cover of the Beatles' classic "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

The cover, led by Mayday Parade, also features members of the Maine, Knuckle Puck, We the Kings and Grayscale, as well as ex-Real Friends frontman Dan Lambton. Check it out below:

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Mayday Parade frontman Derek Sanders said the following: “We wanted to take advantage of the extra time away from tour that we have and record a cover for all of you. 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' is one of the catchiest songs we could think of and it was a real pleasure to put this together.”

As for the video, Mayday bassist Jeremy Lenzo explains: “We didn’t know how it was going to all come together, but we knew it was going to be fun. We wanted to make a video for it, but weren’t sure how to use the footage to make it all feel connected.”

The release of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" follows "It Is What It Is," a typically emo single put out by Mayday Parade earlier in the year that signaled the start of the band's next album campaign. Their last LP, Sunnyland, dropped in 2018 and charted at No. 104 on the Billboard 200, considerably lower than 2015's Black Lines, which got to No. 21.

Sanders recently released a solo EP, My Rock and Roll Heart, which featured covers of bands including Jimmy Eat World and Saves the Day. He spoke to Note to Scene earlier this year about the record and also provided his ranking of Mayday Parade's six studio albums. Check that out here.

There's been no new material from the Maine, We the Kings or Grayscale in 2020, but Knuckle Puck are set to release their third album, 20/20, this year. Dan Lambton left Real Friends in February, but still plays in rationale. with Knuckle Puck members Joe Taylor and Ryan Rumchaks.
