Atreyu Vocalist Leaves Band: Report
z
Atreyu vocalist Alex Varkatzas has left the band, according to a recent report.
Metal website Lambgoat state that, whilst an official announcement is yet to be made, they have had it confirmed to them that founding member Varkatzas is no longer a part of Atreyu.
"Alex Varkatzas, co-founder and vocalist of California metalcore/alternative metal outfit Atreyu, has exited the group," Lambgoat report. "While no official announcement has been made, Lambgoat can now confirm the news.
"Drummer and co-vocalist Brandon Saller will presumably handle vocals going forward, though time will tell."
Atreyu's last album, In Our Wake, was released in 2018, with the metalcore group more recently dropping a standalone single, "Battle Drums," with DJ Kayzo.
The news of Varkatzas' departure comes as somewhat of a surprise given Atreyu were in the studio earlier this year working on a new album with blink-182's Mark Hoppus.
However, rumors pertaining to Varkatzas' status in the band have been circulating over the past few weeks after the vocalist unfollowed several members of Atreyu on social media and deleted posts related to the band.
Yesterday, Varkatzas took to Instagram to welcome the birth of his new child, and made some interesting comments that could well be related to his exit from Atreyu.
“Life has ruthlessly been taking from me lately," he shared. "2019thru2020 has done its best to destroy me. Testing me to my mental limits. The horrible, fake people and things that have exited my life this year have been replaced by something so pure and sweet. It feels like a new start.”
This is a breaking news story which we will update as more information becomes available.
