Deathcore heavyweights Whitechapel released an acoustic song this week, and it's actually pretty great.

The band put out an acoustic version of "Hickory Creek," whose original iteration was a part of the Tennessee natives' most recent album, 2019's The Valley.

Speaking about the acoustic release of "Hickory Creek," vocalist Phil Bozeman said: "If any song could have an acoustic version, it would be 'Hickory Creek'. This was enjoyable on so many levels for us to make, and we hope you share that same joy during these hard times."

And for reference, here's the original:

The original version of "Hickory Creek" was an interesting departure for Whitechapel in that it's one of the only songs by the band to feature almost entirely clean singing, and now that they've put out an acoustic rendition of the song, could it be that they're planning on heading down a more melodic route in the future?

The Valley was released to a positive reception last year and saw Whitechapel peak at No. 143 on the Billboard chart. The album reportedly recorded first week sales of around 5,800 units.

Whitechapel were recently forced to cancel a tour of Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, they still have a run of U.S. shows in place for June.

"Hickory Creek" lyrics [via Genius]

[Verse 1]
It's so hard to let go
You can hear me but I'm invisible
But if you dig out your eyes, maybe pain will subside
The worst that could happen is you never see me again
But the worst is yet to come, my friend

[Chorus]
This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now

[Verse 2]
I left so long ago
You never noticed I was gone
Now that you don't have eyes, maybe now you'll realize
Within your own head, you're creating these lies
For what it's worth, you're still beautiful
But beauty lies within the eyes

[Chorus]
This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now
It's time to walk away with nothing left
Nothing left in my soul
I've faded into myself

[Chorus]
This path I walk is comforting
But now I'm left to sing this song alone
I'm fading faster now
It's time to walk away with nothing left
Nothing left in my soul
I'm fading faster now
